01 What to expect

Your first Sunday, step by step

Worship at Mount Olive follows the ancient pattern of the church. You don’t need to know it to be welcome in it.

Gathering

Each service begins with the pouring of water and a remembrance of baptism at the font, which sits at the center of our worship.

Word

Scripture readings and preaching that connect the Word of God to life’s daily joys and sorrows.

Meal

Holy Communion at every service. All are welcome to receive, believing in the presence of our Lord.

Sending

We are sent back into the world strengthened — often by way of the coffee pot in the Gathering Area.

02 Families

Kids are expected here

The absolute best way to teach the faith is when children and parents worship together.

Children grow into worship just as they grow into faith. If your little one needs a break, it is always appropriate to step out — and a staffed nursery is available during the late service.

All ages are invited to the communion table as parents see fit. Sunday School meets between services from age 3 through 12th grade.

03 Good to know

Quick answers

Where do I park and which door do I use?

Mount Olive has an on-site parking lot off 18th Ave NW, two blocks south of John Adams Middle School. Look for the information table in the entry and Gathering Area — and the coffee after worship.

What should I wear?

Whatever is comfortable for you. You will see everything from jeans to Sunday best.

What is the worship style?

Worship is rooted in the liturgical tradition of the Lutheran Church, following the pattern of gathering, Word, Meal and sending. Hymns, old and new, figure prominently, using the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book.

Can I take communion?

Yes. Our communion table is open to all as God draws you. The Altar Guild prepares both bread and wafers, and both wine and grape juice, for every service.

Can I watch first, online?

Absolutely. The early Sunday service is livestreamed each week, and past services are on our Watch Online page.
